Lukas Burger, owner of the stud, said the outstanding prices were the result of 46 years of hard work and attention to detail as far as breeding and genetics were concerned.
“These two rams have the potential to add exceptional value to any flock they are introduced to. I want to thank and congratulate the buyers, Salmon van Huyssteen and Alvin Steenkamp, for making history with the first-ever double ram transaction in South Africa, with each sold at a million rands,” Burger told Farmer’s Weekly.

Steenkamp, from Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng, purchased the ram called Link (762-22-538), a proven herd sire and one the best rams, according to Burger, his stud has ever bred.
Link is a son of Volvo, with Staal’s bloodlines on his mother’s side.
“This ram truly has it all, and it will take an extraordinary ram to even come close to matching his quality. His value is also evident in the top quality of his offspring,” Burger said.

Salmon van Huyssteen, who farms in Kameeldrift West, bought Top Notch (762-23-152), a ram sired by Faf known for his structural precision and sterling bloodlines.
Burger believes Top Notch will undoubtedly elevate all breeding efforts within a flock.

Both rams were sold out of hand.
