“With the Bayer Female Farmer of the Year competition, we would like to give recognition to the women who form the backbone of our farming community: whether it’s our farmers’ wives or the women who stand at the head of a farming operation,” said Stephen Nel, Bayer Campaign and Branding Lead for Africa.
“We know that women play an important role on the farm and that their support forms the backbone and structure for success in many farming operations.”

The criteria for the competition will be based on the potential winner’s overall involvement on the farm as well as in her broader community.
Women from across all sectors within the agriculture sector can take part. Women farmers, or the wives of farmers, who farm with one or more Bayer or DEKALB products may be nominated for this competition.
Nominations can be submitted by the farmer/wife herself, or by any affiliate of the farmer or farmer’s wife, including a Bayer or DEKALB representative, family members, friends and/or community members.
Entries opened yesterday on 15 May and will close on 15 July. The winners will be announced in September.
The winner in the category for Female Farmer of the Year will walk away with R15 000 worth of products, while the winner in the Farmer’s Wife category will win R10 000 to be donated to a charity of her choice.

Both winners will also receive a R2 000 self-care voucher, a R1 500 voucher from Uppe Marketing and three signed books by author Milanie Vosloo.
